Campanile Château-Thierry

A no-frills, budget hotel that delivered more than many fancier ones. Our motel-style room on the ground floor was very basically fitted and furnished, but was clean and had everything we needed for an en-route stopover. This included wifi, big bathroom and shower, aircon, press-button shutters, full-size kettle and coffee sachets / tea bags. The (continental) breakfast buffet was good. There was a communal covered outside sitting space for some fresh air in rain or sun. There is no bar and the restuarant was closed the evening we arrived (Sunday) but the friendly staff at reception told us where to find eateries in town. A 5-minute drive to the Town Hall brought us to parking and a nice Franco-Italian family restaurant, Il Calcio, which provided just what we wanted (lovely big salads and some ice cream after) quickly, on a hot evening. It also served a range of pizzas, pasta and main courses and the staff, though worked off their feet, were unfailingly professional. The hotel is barely a couple of minutes' easy drive from the mororway. Opposite it is a small shopping park with supermarket, bakery, take-away restaurants, self-pay fuel station and even a self-operated laundromat. So you can stock up for both vehicle and people before the journey ahead.

Clean and comfortable with a great location.

24 hour reception was useful for my late arrival. Staff friendly and helpful. Room was adequate and comfortable with all that is needed for a short-term stay. Good value breakfast with plenty of selection.
